We have a Star-Studded line up to woo the crowds this weekend in Wigan at Round Two of
the Viking StreetVelodrome Series.
Let’s start with the home team, Team Wigan. The team leader is none other than Multiple
World Champion and Team GB Olympic BMX racer, Shanaze Reade! Unfortunately, due to
an ongoing shoulder injury, she will be unable to compete, but she is instead using her
enthusiasm to coach the kids in our Kids Series and her experienced race-head to keep her
team in focus.
OLYMPIAN SHANAZE READE MEETS LOCAL FANS ON DAY 1 OF STREETVELODROME WIGAN
TEAM CORNWALL MATTI HEMMINGS GETS SOME EARLY TRACK TIME AHEAD OF SUNDAY'S BIG RACE
Standing (or pedalling) in her place is award-winning cycling blogger, Juliet Elliott. It will be her first time racing on the StreetVelodrome, but the crowd can expect a good performance from this multi-disciplined, experienced racer under great tuition from Reade and male series leader, Patrick Robinson. Robinson has been honing his skills and training his body for the International Urban Downhill Series, and the hard-work is proving to pay off with a convincing win in Round One. He currently remains favourite for the win in Wigan on home soil, and a Team Wigan victory is not out of the question with such strong players.
GOLDEN BOY - CAN TEAM WIGAN'S PATRICK ROBINSON CLAIM GOLD ON HOME SOIL?
Team London retains the popular 2016 duo, Mad Dave Johnson and Anna Glowinski. Mad
Dave made history in 2014 as an amateur riding giving StreetVelodrome a go for the first
time, and going on to win the series. Until Robinson came along, Johnson had been
TEAM LONDON - CAN THEY RAISE THEIR GAME AT ROUND 2?
Glowinski too had a glowing start to her StreetVelodrome career in 2014 and
2015, but recently the newbies have been proving that eager blood can be a match for
seasoned veterans. Team London desperately need a Gold medal from either rider in order
to be contenders for the series...but whatever happens in the race, we know that the crowds
and cameras will be entertained with our lovable characters.
We also can’t wait to introduce another debut hopeful, Veronika Widmann, previous
European Downhill MTB Champion! Mountain bikers have long proven a skill base that sets
them in good stead for our steep bankings and Widmann will be donning the green jersey of
Team Dublin in hope of proving her worth.
ITALIAN & EUROPEAN CHAMPIONS VERONIKA WILL BE MAKING HER DEBUT AT WIGAN
More stars are on show with the SouthCoast Rollers, Craig MacLean, Olympian and
Commonwealth gold medallist track racer is back to storm the StreetVelodrome with his
phenomenal thighs! Will he be able to bring gold for the team? Or will that be left for
underdog-come-hero Rowena Price, who is more hungry for gold than anyone after a close
silver in Round One.
OLYMPIAN CRAIG MACLEAN MBE RETURNS TO THE SERIES TO BOOST THE SOUTH COAST ROLLERS BID FOR THEIR FIRST GOLD MEDAL
Another Downhill champ is gracing our curves for the Suffolk Saints, the New Zealander
National winner Bryn Dickerson might be the first ever medallist for the team! It is unlikely
that BMX freestyle star, Kara Gaetz-Bruce will be able to contend the medals, as she is
currently nursing a broken leg...but will that stop her from taking part?! Will it heck, she is
tough as nails!
Guinness World Record holder and Nikelodean star, Matti Hemmings, is guaranteed to be a
favourite for signing autographs for the kids, but can he up his game enough to finally snap
up a medal? We don’t know, but his Team Cornwall teammate, Jessica Watts is proving
extremely able. Watch this space.
Our Pre-Wigan report has become a who’s-who across all different disciplines of cycling.
Never before have so many cycling stars, celebrities and champions from such an array of
cycling styles come together to battle it out in the same arena. The Wigan round of the
Viking StreetVelodrome National Series is going to prove an autograph haven and a crown
spectacle….even if you didn’t manage to get into the ballot to ride, we suggest you head
along with the whole family and watch the spectacle unfold.
