NEWMARKET TO HOST VIKING STREETVELODROME SERIES
NEWMARKET, FAMOUS FOR HORSE RACING, WILL SEE A NEW KIND OF RACING ON 8TH JULY
Try a different saddle and get on your bike with the world’s most accessible cycle sport, part of this year’s Newmarket Festival. Horses and bikes will unite when the StreetVelodrome comes to the home of horseracing on Friday 7th, Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th July.
The Viking StreetVelodrome Series returns to Suffolk in 2017 for the third consecutive year. After the fantastic success of last year’s event in Bury St Edmunds, Newmarket are delighted to take up the challenge of the StreetVelodrome and welcome the three day event to the Severals Pavilion, delivered again by Abbeycroft Leisure.
Other organisations helping to bring the event to Newmarket include Suffolk County Council, The Jockey Club and Yutree.

2016 AMATEUR CHAMPION TITLE WINNER ANITA BICKERS (LEFT) QUALIFIED FOR THE FINALS AFTER WINNING IN SUFFOLK'S ROUND OF THE SERIES LAST YEAR.
The Severals Pavilion is located at the centre of the town, next to the Clock Tower and the High Street, and this space will become the perfect location for the StreetVelodrome as the centrepiece of the Newmarket Festival.
The Viking StreetVelodrome Series will be just one event taking place in an exciting year for cycling in Newmarket this year. The Newmarket Hilly on the 25th June is the perfect warm-up to the Viking StreetVelodrome Series event, a hilly and challenging Cyclo-Sportive around the beautiful country lanes of Suffolk. In September, Newmarket will act as the launch location for the sixth stage of the Men’s Tour of Britain. These incredible cycling events will become part of the mission to help Suffolk to become England’s most active county.
CANADIAN PRO BMXER KARA GAETZ-BRUCE WILL BE RACING FOR THE SUFFOLK SAINTS
The weekend will kick off with an opportunity for local schools to try out the track first and set the pace for the weekend of cycling. On Friday evening, local businesses will compete against one another in a fun corporate team racing event, perfect for networking.
On Saturday, the amateur riders will have a go on the track before the pros take the lead in round 4 of the Viking StreetVelodrome Series. With the Suffolk female amateur rider Anita Vickers winning the national amateur title in 2016, the pressure is on for another local amateur to top the podium this year!
THE SHARKS WILL AIMING TO BEAT RIVALS THE TIGERS ON 8TH JULY
Then, the Suffolk Saints, featuring BMX National Champion John Stockwell and Canadian elite rider Kara Gaetz-Bruce, will return to their home county to compete against their fellow teams in the Pro Series on Saturday afternoon to finish off a day of nail-biting racing.
Joining them will be the county's future of cycling talent with the DeNovo Kids Series. The Series includes two great competitions; The Sharks v Tigers for 3 to 11 year olds and the DeNovo NexGen Series for 12 to 16 year olds.
On Sunday, it’s your turn – come down and ride for free on our unique track, no need to pre-register! With hundreds people taking part last year in Bury St Edmunds, the Newmarket Festival is sure to be packed with cycling fans looking for a challenge so come along and join in!
