StreetVelodrome has today announced a partnership with Team GB’s Shanaze Reade and DeNovo kids bikes for the 2017 Street Velodrome Series.
Shanaze Reade will be an ambassador and DeNovo will be the official bike partner for the StreetVelodrome Kids Series and NexGen Series which launches at the London Bike Show on Saturday 18th February.
The StreetVelodrome Sharks v Tigers and NexGen Series brings together two great competitions aimed at inspiring the next generation of cycle sport stars. Each event in the nationwide series which tours the UK with its innovative pop up banked track sees local kids taking part in cycle sport for free.
There are no entry fees to StreetVelodrome events and pro rider coaching is provided, as well as free loan of helmets and of course bikes.
DeNovo bikes are distributed by Avocet, one of the leading distributors of bikes in the UK. The DeNovo brand is aimed at independent bike dealers in the UK as part of Avocet’s mission to support the local bike dealer market and encourage more children to get into cycling at a young age.
The range of frame sizes available at StreetVelodrome events will suit children of all ages and will boast top specification as standard. Their cool colourful high quality frames and components have been specially chosen for their comfort and safety, giving them the confidence to tackle the StreetVelodrome banking like a pro.
StreetVelodrome Series Director, Carl Thompson, said: “Riding a bike is just great fun. Kids love the freedom and excitement it gives them. The StreetVelodrome Kids Series captures that raw emotion and uses it to inspire kids to go on to do more cycling. Having the right bike is vital in helping young riders develop the confidence and skills they require. That’s why we are so grateful to the team at DeNovo for supporting the series.”
Steven Walsh, Managing Director, Avocet: “We’re proud to be sponsoring this great initiative. The team at DeNovo share StreetVelodrome’s vision of creating greater access to cycling and cycle sport by providing entertaining, engaging and inspiring experiences. We’re committed to inspiring the next generation of top British cyclists and encouraging as many children and families to cycle more often.”
Shanaze began her love of cycle sport at the age of ten when she discovered BMX racing. She went on to win numerous junior BMX European titles and the UCI World Champions three times. She has also represented Team GB on the velodrome track too, winning Gold in the Women’s Team Sprint riding alongside Victoria Pendleton.
A great ambassador for cycle sport and inspiring young people to get active through cycling, Shanaze said: “I can’t wait to get involved. I love what StreetVelodrome are doing.”
StreetVelodrome will be a key attraction at the London Bike Show at London Excel 16 to 19 Feb. The official launch of the 2017 Kids Series takes place on Saturday 18th Feb between 1pm and 3pm. Around 30 kids aged 4 to 14 will be taking part in competitions using the StreetVelodrome race track.
The Series, now in its fourth year, has seen some exciting new cycling talent emerge. Back in 2014 a young 14 year old Tom Pidcock took part in a StreetVelodrome Series event in Stockton. Tom dominated his age category on the day and set lap times as rapid as the pro riders. Fast forward to 2017 and Tom is now the European and World cross country junior champion with a great future ahead of him.
Tom said of his experience in 2014 “Winning was quite a surprise, I only came to ride round and see how fast I could go.”
DeNovo have developed a range of stunning bikes that are fun, safe and provide that all important gateway to a healthy, active outdoors lifestyle.
