Suffolk Saints duo John and Tanya are hoping the cobbles of Charter Square, Bury St Edmunds could be the secret to their success in Round 7 of the UK StreetVelodrome Series.
Charter Square will be the arena and the characteristic cobbles will be the new challenge for the six pro teams.
JOHN & TANYA GET UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL WITH ONE OF CHARTER SQUARE'S COBBLES
Tanya commented "The cobbles aren't as severe as you'd see in the Belgium one day classics, but they are just enough to cause the bike to shake which slows you down. Meaning the riders with the stronger legs could benefit."
The Suffolk Saints are currently placed 6th and last in the overall Series with just one race win to their name. However this doesn't tell the whole tale. John has missed out on bronze by just fractions of a second at three events this season. And last week in Worthing the team qualified a strong 4th place in the Pro Team Qualifying session.
COULD THE COBBLES CHANGE THE FORTUNES FOR THE SAINTS?
Along with the cobbles the Saints will be hoping the local support from the people of Suffolk will cheer them on to even better performances on the day.
John said "A gold would be amazing but I definitely feel we can leave Bury St Edmunds with a few race wins and a bronze if things go right".
Round 7 in Bury St Edmunds is the penultimate round of the Series with the next event being the Prudential RideLondon SuperFinals. The amateur riders competing at Bury St Edmunds will have the chance to qualify to race at the SuperFinals to help John and Tanya to represent the county. All they have to do is win in their category (male or female) on the day, and on the cobbles of Charter Square.
