PREVIEW ROUND 2 - PRE-RACE PREDICTIONS
StreetVelodrome Gears up for Round 2 of it’s UK Series in the London borough of Hillingdon
Team London, comprised of undefeated StreetVelodrome Champion, Dave Johnson and 2014 Champion Anna Glowinski are looking for loud cheers to bring them from 3rd place in the medal table to victory on May 22.
Fassnidge Park in Uxbridge will be the arena in which the racing will play out, with Team Cornwall and Angels of the North currently tied in first place of the team standings. In 2015 there were certain presumptions and expectations across both the men’s and women’s racing, with wins from Dave Johnson and Jess Stone at almost every round. This year, with a mix of new-comer Pro’s and last year’s Pro’s determined to shake up the status quo, we saw an electric first round.
Once again, 2010’s National Downhill Mountain Biking Champion, the Rolling Stone claimed top step in the women’s competition. But the battle for podium was close and hair raising, with a tight battle between Anna Glowinski and last year Amateur-turned-Pro Rowena Price. The other new female riders, scouted from StreetVelodrome’s search for female Pro’s to join them this season, Helen MacGregor, Tanya Griffiths and Jessica Watts all proved worth their salt in the racing. It is no doubt that as they get more experience under their belts they will be mixing up the results through the Series...perhaps Round 2 in Hillingdon will see the first big shake up?
In the men’s racing, Team Cornwall’s Matti Hemmings wowed the crowd with his flatland BMX skills that earned him a Guiness World Record, but it wasn’t quite enough to see him onto the podium in Round 1. The real talking point was the unexpected win by Patrick Robinson in a head-to-head final against Dave Johnson, putting Angels of the North at the head of the Team Table. Patrick’s best result in 2015 was 3rd place, so it came as a surprise to everyone but himself. Dave was clearly ruffled by the result and will be gritting his teeth to pull it back on home ground in HIllingdon.
The predictions are uncertain and it feels as though anything could happen in Round 2 this weekend. Will you be in Fassnidge Park to support Team London?
Charlotte Hurst (dentist by day, cyclist by night) and Andy Bray (4-cross and enduro racer) we the fastest amateurs in Round 1, securing them a place in the SuperFinal event as part of Team Cornwall. This weekend in Hillingdon, we will be looking for the fastest amateurs to join Anna and Dave in Team London in front of Buckingham Palace, July 30
