The successful amateur rider applicants for the ballot for Round 1 of the UK StreetVelodrome Series have been announced.
The event will be held at Eden Project, Cornwall on 8th May. Race entry is 100% free for those selected in the ballot.
There's a male and female category and in both competitions the riders will be racing for the chance to go to the SuperFinals representing their regional team - TEAM CORNWALL.
If they win at the SuperFinals they'll be crowned the Amateur Champions of 2016 and could win a Pro Rider contract for 2017.
Last year's Female Amateur Champion Rowena Price did just that and is now competing for the South Coast Rollers throughout the 2016 Series.
The full amateur rider entry list has been published on the Eden Project event page on www.streetvelodrome.co.uk
Also announced today is the full list of Kids who have entered the StreetVelodrome Kids Series event on the same day.
Here's how it works on race day:
Race day will start with Amateur Rider Qualifying from 9.00am until 12.30pm.
The riders get to do a 2 lap time trial. The top five automatically qualify to race.
At 12.30 those finishing 6th and 7th must race each other in a head to head sprint pursuit race. The winner gets the final qualification place.
At 1pm the Amateur riders who have qualified can now sit back and watch how the Pro Riders attack those banked corners during the Pro Team Qualifying session.
Between 2pm and 4pm its the Kids turn to takeover StreetVelodrome for the StreetVelodrome Kids Series coaching and practice session.
Then at 4pm the action starts with the first round of elimination head to head duels between the best amateurs riders. The winners will progress to the final to decide who gets to represent Team Cornwall at the SuperFinals, outside Buckingham Palace, and the chance to win the Amateur Champion title.
Meanwhile the Pro Riders will also be competing for gold, silver and bronze medals for their Pro Teams. Not forgetting there's the matter of the Sharks v Tigers battles in the StreetVelodrome Kids Series.
It all kicks off at Eden Project on Sunday 8th May.
