Hillingdon Council is excited to reveal that StreetVelodrome’s popup cycling track will come to the borough between Friday 20 and Sunday 22 May.
The council funded StreetVelodrome event will be staged at Fassnidge Park, Uxbridge, offering local cyclists the opportunity to ride for free on a unique stage in a thrilling UK wide series and showcase some of the best cycling talent from the area.
The StreetVelodrome will also inspire families to come along to watch for free and encourage people to be more active and take up or learn to ride a bike.
The weekend's action will offer a great flavour of what is to come to Hillingdon's award winning parks and green spaces this summer. The Council is launching ParkLife, a range of fun, social activities, encouraging residents and visitors to get out and get active in the sunshine.
The initiative aims to bring the whole community together to try free and reduced rate activities for individuals and families; from gardening and walking, to legs, bums and tums sessions and buggy walks, there really will be something for everyone.
Hillingdon is one of the greenest boroughs in the UK, with more Green Flag awards than anywhere else in London. Fassnidge Park is a great example; it covers four acres and visitor to the StreetVelodrome will also be able to discover the bowling green, tennis courts, playground and skate park.
The StreetVelodrome weekend will offer three days of great cycling action.
Friday will be open to local schools and community groups.
Saturday is open to local residents to come along and enjoy public sessions for free. They can just turn up anytime between 10am and 4pm. First come first served for free bike loan, helment loan, pro rider coaching sessions and a fun race experiences on track.
Sunday is Race Day (between 9am and 6pm). This will be the climax of the three day event with Round 2 of the UK StreetVelodrome Series. The event is filmed as part of a TV series to be shown on BTSport and the Bike Channel later in the year.
There's also the StreetVelodrome Kids Series which offers local 3 to 15 year olds the chance to compete in a national series alongside the pros.
Local amateur and kids are able to enter the event for free by applying to the online ballot. To enter the ballot for this event go to the Join In section of the StreetVelodrome website.
Otherwise those who just want to watch and enjoy the action can support their 'home team' Team London and their riders defending Series Champions Dave Johnson and Anna Glowinski.
There will be refreshments on sale in the park throughout the day plus a bouncy castle and other attractions.
