Pupils from a Glasgow city primary school will get the chance to ride like a professional cyclist when they take part in a special StreetVelodrome at the Scottish Cycling, Running & Outdoor Pursuits Show.

The two class groups from Lorne Street Primary School, Glasgow will attend the show at the SECC Glasgow on Friday 11th March and get to learn to ride on the specially designed pop up mini velodrome using bikes supplied by Cuda Bikes.

The aim of the event is to highlight the benefit of encouraging primary aged school children to have greater access to cycling and cycle sport in particular. It will also showcase the ambition of a new charity campaign called Cycling Futures which aims to promote greater access to cycling within the national curriculum framework.

StreetVelodrome Series Director Carl Thompson comments “Having a positive and inspiring experience of cycling at a young age can have a significant impact on an individual’s life choices later in life. Whether that’s deciding to take cycling up as a sport or simply choosing the way in which you commute."

"Not only is cycling a fantastic means of keeping fit and active it has a wider positive social impact too by reducing traffic emission and congestion and reducing the burden on the NHS caused by inactivity. That is why StreetVelodrome is supporting the Cycling Futures campaign to get cycling firmly on the national curriculum and to ensure that all primary aged school children have the opportunity to not only learn to cycle but to enjoy it too.”

The class groups will experience on track pro rider coaching, provided by Scottish Borders based pro rider and 2010 British Down Hill Mountain Bike Champion Jess Stone.  All the equipment they need will be provided and each participant will enjoy a fun race experience on the track and receive a StreetVelodrome participation medal.

The Scottish Cycling, Running & Outdoor Pursuits Show organisers PSP Media Group Ltd are delighted to be able to host this opportunity for a school from the local community. The show is open to the public and runs from 11 to 13th March.
