Team Sharks Win Kids Series

Team Sharks managed to win the ASDA StreetVelodrome Kids Series with the competition going right down to the last race of the year.

The Kids Series supported the senior competition at each of the regional rounds of the ASDA StreetVelodrome Series. Open to any under 16 year olds able to ride a bike, the series offered many with their first ever taste of cycle sport with all the equipment kindly provided by

Throughout the series young riders, our #FuturePros, were given coaching by the pro riders who compete in the senior series such as ASDA Series Female Pro Rider Champion Jess Stone, Olympian Craig Maclean and Italian BMX Champ Mario Presi.

Once coaching was complete the #FuturePros were then teamed up into either Team Sharks or Team Tigers. The racing replicated the senior series with two riders from opposing teams going head to head in an exciting Olympic style pursuit race.

One point was awarded for each win and an extra bonus point for each 'Catch' scored.

The racing started in Paisley with 3 year old Andy (Team Sharks) racing against 5 year old Esther (Team Tigers). To the cheers of the crowd both riders completed the 2 lap race confidently and with huge smiles as they both climbed onto the podium to collect their medals. It was a win for Team Tigers on that occasion. But Team Sharks would eventually take the lead in the Series.

They led for most of the Series thanks to the efforts of 11 year old Jayden Randell (Team Sharks). Jayden and his family, from Gloucestershire, travelled the UK following the Series and competing at each round. Jayden, who was often on hand to offer coaching tips to his fellow competitors, never failed to deliver a confident race performance for his team.

The ASDA Kids Series was concluded at round 6 in Ealing. Team Tigers had pulled back from being 8 points behind leaders Team Sharks. When the teams met on Ealing Green for the finals there was just 4 points separating them, with the potential for 10 points to be won on the day.

By the final showdown involving Jayden for Team Sharks and Zac for Team Tigers the gap was just 2 points. If Zac won by a 'catch' the Kids Series would have been a draw. It couldn't have been much closer after 24 races.

But once again Jayden provided a confident ride to seal victory for Team Sharks crossing the line first giving the team a valuable point and the 2015 Kids Series title.

Jayden was invited to showcase the Kids Series at the ASDA SuperFinals held in Broadgate, City of London. There he was set the challenge to set a 2 lap qualifying time quicker than the fastest male amateur time of 23 seconds set earlier in the day.

In front of an appreciative audience there to witness the power and skill of the top senior riders in the Series, Jayden not only met the challenge, he smashed it with a time of 19.14 seconds.

The Kids Series has been a great success and we look forward to its return in 2016.
