The teams of the ASDA StreetVelodrome Series will be making their way to Stockton on Tees for this weekend's Round 3 of the series. And they do so with the competition finely balanced between the top three teams.
The medal table is led, but only marginally by Team Quella with one gold and two silver medals. Team ProCook are in second place with one medal of each colour. This puts them just ahead of Team Cycleguard with one gold and two bronze medals. But it could all change in Stockton.
For the first time ever in StreetVelodrome the action on Sunday morning will start with a 'final'. The delayed women's final from Stevenage will see Jess Stone (Cycleguard) face Anna Glowinski (Quella).
If Jess wins gold she will bring Cycleguard up from 3rd to take the overall lead in the Series. Quella will drop to 2nd and ProCook down to 3rd. If Anna wins all three teams will remain in their current ranking.
This will be critical for the rest of the event in Stockton as the team rankings in the overall medal table decide the seeding of the riders for their initial elimination heats. Therefore if Cycleguard take the lead all their riders (male or female, pro or am) will get the better draw and face easier opponents. It also goes that if Anna loses her delayed final with Jess, all the Quella riders will be facing more difficult opponents in that first round of eliminations.
In the highly competitive 'Catch' Trophy Team Cycleguard continue to lead with 12 catches thanks to Jess Stone's aggressive style of riding. She continues with a virtual 100% record of winning every race by a catch. They are followed by Teams ProCook & Quella both on 9 catches.
The Trophy for the most Wins in the Series is led jointly by Teams Cycleguard and Quella on 17 with ProCook behind on 11.
For this weekend's event the usual Pro Teams will be joined by local guest team WattCycle. Their two riders, plus their locally qualifying amateurs will be looking to make their mark. So far this Series the guest teams have all managed to score at least a bronze to get themselves on the overall medal table.
But Teams Velotec & Rock The Cotswolds will be looking to get their medal tally off the ground at Stockton too with both teams yet to score. Its going to be a fascinating battle at the Riverside in Stockton on Tees come Sunday. With a major shake up of the medal table expected.
Pro Rider Line Up
Another exciting line up of elite riders and special guests will be racing at Round 3 in Stockton.
These will include Team Cycleguards regular pro line up of Jess Stone (British National Downhill Champ) and Jack Ravenscroft (U23 TeamGB Cyclocross).
Team Quella will have their regulars and 2014 champs Dave Johnson and Anna Glowinski.
Team ProCook will have Stevenage gold medalist Mario Presi and Kelli Salone on hand.
Team Velotec will be supported by Olympic track star Craig Maclean MBE and after a successful debut in Stevenage mountain biker Emily Horridge.
Team Rock the Cotswolds will be joined by two special guest stars. World renown bmx stunt and Guiness book of records holder rider Matti Hemmings will be joined by Team GB Winter Olympic star Zoe Gillings-Brier. Both will be making their StreetVelodrome debuts.
Adding to the line up will be the two pro riders for guest team WattCycle which include Karen Poole (who has competed in the World Masters Time Trial) and WattCycle head coach Adam Brooks.
The StreetVelodrome Kids Series
Also to look forward to at this weekend's event is Round 3 of the ASDA StreetVelodrome Kids Series. The two teams, The Sharks and the Tigers have now faced each other in 7 head to head races.
With 1 point for a win and a bonus point for a catch the series is being led by Team Sharks with a score of 8 points to Team Tigers 2 points.
But just like the adult's competition this could all change this weekend as our #FuturePros take over the StreetVelodrome once again.
