London Cycling Campaign Wins in Stevenage
Craig MacLean MBE, riding for the London Cycling Campaign (LCC) team did a champion's job on Sunday by winning each of his early races and getting himself into the mix for the medals.
Joined by fellow pro rider Adel Tyson Bloor and two qualifying amateur racers, Lorena Jones and Dave Jackson, Craig took his team to overall victory on the day with a total medal haul of: 1 Gold for Craig and 1 Bronze for Dave in the men's competition and 1 silver for Adel in the women's. Lorena finished a credible 4th place.
The team also managed to win 12 of their races with Dave scoring one of only two catches on the day (a catch is when a faster rider catches up with the slower rider before the end of the short race distance).
The result means LCC now lead the team's medal table ahead of Team Mad Dog Energy Lemonade (MDEL) who themselves won 1 gold for Anna Glowinski and 1 silver for Keelan Philips.
MDEL's amateur male and local rider Mark Vooght finished a fantastic 4th place after gaining a wildcard thanks to winning the popular vote from the public. The other wilcard rider was 12 year old junior Lauren Higham who went on to score a bronze for Team Velotec, putting them in third place overall in the Team Medal Table.
Cycle Chilterns were left to look towards Ealing after gaining no medals in Stevenage. Neither pro rider made it through the third round. Maxine Filby made clear on twitter later that day "next round, we're winning!".
We can't wait to find out if she's right.
