Mpora StreetVelodrome - Manchester Event a Great Success

We enjoyed a really successful two days of racing at the Manchester Bike and Tri Show.

On Saturday we saw over 100 amateur riders sign up to have a go at StreetVelodrome using our guest bikes thanks to and for junior riders our friends at Worx Bikes provided a range of smaller frame sized race bikes.

At two o'clock on Saturday two teams of four riders competed in our Charity Team Challenge. With 1 point for a win and 2 for a 'Catch' it was a close competition over the three rounds. Eventually Orange beat Green by just 1 point.

Our main event was the Mpora StreetVelodrome - Manchester event on Sunday. Six Teams with a mix of amateur and pro riders (male / female) took advantage of the morning practice session before the battle commenced at 1230.

With a cheering crowd, driving sound track, live race commentary, stage lighting and live timing the atmosphere was fantastic and the racing didn't disappoint either.

Over 730 spectator votes were cast using the online voting link from the website. These votes awarded Spectator Wildcards to Pro rider Libby Smith (ranked 7th in the World in her category in BMX) and Amateur rider Mitch Gough, veteran club cyclist. Libby managed to convert that support to a bonze medal for the Manchester crowd. Mitch lost out to young BMX star Lewis Kesterton for the bronze medal.

In the gold / silver finals Ross Sharp for Club Roost beat Lee Gratton for Cycle Chilterns. And in the Women's final Anna Glowinski for the StreetVelodrome Guest Team beat Cycle Chilterns Maxine Filby.

Overall the StreetVelodrome Guest team one the team prize ahead of the Club Roost team thanks to the results from their amateur riders.

A full set of race results with lap times will be published shortly in Result.
